CRIME: Bad stats, no justification

| June 3, 2020 1:00 AM

In a letter to the editor published Sunday, there are incorrect statistics attempting to justify the fear and arrests of African Americans.

As someone who believes in providing accurate information and stands against uneducated bigots, I believe it is my responsibility to provide accurate facts.

In “Crime: Look at the Stats,” Roger Hawkes does not demonstrate a single correct stat. African Americans make up 13.4% of the U.S. population, according to the U.S. Census from 2019. According to statistics from the FBI government website, a majority of arrests (over 50%) are that of white people.

Before you choose to publish something, letter to the editor or not, you should be sure you are providing correct information.

It took me less that two minutes to verify my sources and by spreading incorrect information you are attempting to justify violence against black lives and support the racist agenda that Idaho loves to serve.
