Summer living on Lake Cd’A: Rockford, Windy and Cave Bay

Neighborhood of the Week is spending summer vacation on Lake Coeur d’Alene. It’s July, which means the water might finally be warm enough to enjoy.

Neighborhood of the Week is spending summer vacation on Lake Coeur d’Alene. It’s July, which means the water might finally be warm enough to enjoy.

In previous installments we covered Kidd Island Bay, Coeur d’Alene Lake Drive and Arrow Point. This week we’re heading south a bit and into Rockford, Windy and Cave bays. Sorry Mica Bay! We’ve covered you before. Nice location!

Rockford Bay deservedly gets quite a bit of attention, including in previous installments of Neighborhood of the Week. You can thank Black Rock for that, which offers high-class water and mountain views, premium golf and some incredible properties. It takes about 20 minutes by car to reach Black Rock via U.S. 95, and the variety of options there remains strong even after years of growth.

Neighborhoods here include the gated Polo Cielo, offering large, estate-style building sites located a bit off the water but with impressive views. Most available lots here run at least an acre in size. Depending on size and placement, the lots go for a range of $80,000 up to $500,000, and several listings clock in around $120,000.

Other options include maintenance-free condo style living in The Flats, premium location estates inside Black Rock (appropriately named The Estates) and stunning lakeview and waterfront options. Some sprawling homes here go for a couple million bucks or more.

Outside of Black Rock, there’s a waterfront home with its own sandy beach and dock area listed for $975,000. Deeper into the bay, a lakeview home with almost 2,500 square feet is listed for $435,000. Another secondary waterfront home with 2,000 square feet is listed for $425,000. Another 1,500 square foot home with secondary waterfront is priced at $370,000. Both come with boat slips at the nearby marina.

All right, stop hogging all the attention, Rockford Bay. Windy Bay is pretty great too! I’ve spent quite a bit of time in Windy Bay (more on that in a second), and I can’t say it’s really all that much windier, but residents there can definitely email and tell me how wrong I am. Anyway, the length of the bay makes it feel like its own lake on most days, and there’s overall less development along the shores.

A couple of intriguing, active listings to mention — one lot has 92 feet of lake frontage priced at $315,000. Another nearby 2.75-acre lot has waterfront with some building limitations for a home directly on the water, but it’s an attractive and versatile piece of property nonetheless (price: $260,000).

As for existing homes, just a couple active listings were spotted at press time: 1. A 2,600+ square foot secondary waterfront home with more than 6.5 acres of property listed at $800,000; 2. A 3,900 square foot secondary waterfront custom home in the Sun Up Bay (is it a sub-bay?!) Crystal Springs subdivision with killer views priced at $739,000.

Our last stop this week is Cave Bay. This is the best bay on Lake Coeur d’Alene, mostly because my parents live there. The community is a mix of waterfront homes, as well as a collection of elevated secondary waterfront properties, most of which have a boat slip in the community marina attached. A park and beach area is a favorite of my kids, and most of the south side of the bay is undeveloped and perfect for a relaxing kayak excursion.

Active listings in Cave Bay include a secondary waterfront home with 2,200 square feet and spacious detached garage/shop priced at $389,000. And there’s more … actually, never mind. I’m not telling you about any more options here. Go find your own cool place to live. It’s all filled up there.

Stay tuned for more Lake Coeur d’Alene living, including a stop at Harrison, as our waterfront series continues. Check out BlackRockIdaho.com and BlackRockHomesNorthIdaho.com for more information on options there.
