BAYVIEW: Re-open East Gate

| July 12, 2020 1:00 AM

The people of Bayview have spoken, “Open the East Gate at Farragut State Park.” In one week over 350 people have signed a petition demanding the reopening of the East Gate.

If the Farragut East Gate entrance remains closed, Bayview businesses that rely on park visitors during the summer months will suffer. The park is making all kinds of excuses but it’s not flying with the folks in Bayview.

A local Bayview organization, Bayview Community Council, initiated the online petition and says: This is poor planning. It’s extremely inconvenient. An unnecessary waste of time and gas. It’s like closing the front door to your home and making you go around to the back door. It’s not right.

The single in and out entry road has increased traffic that is unsafe for bicyclists, walkers and wildlife.

If the park is worried about people not paying their park pass, all they need to do is station a person at the East Gate. It’s just that simple.

Every park user, whether you live in Bayview or not should sign the petition: https://www.change.org/p/re-open-east-gate-at-farragut-state-park
