TRIAL: Do your duty
A recent letter raises the question of impartiality of Democratic senators running for president as they serve as jurors in the current impeachment trial. The obvious and easy answer to that concern is that they, along with every senator, swore an oath of impartiality administered by the Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court.
A more important issue is the blatant behavior exhibited by Republican Senators in the days leading up to the trial. A couple examples:
Senator Mitch McConnell: “Everything I do during this [process], I’m coordinating with White House counsel. I’m not impartial about this at all.”
Senator Lindsey Graham: “I have made up my mind. I’m not trying to pretend to be a fair juror here.”
Legally, swearing an oath falsely is perjury, for which President Bill Clinton was impeached.
It would seem that many Republican Senators now have two options.
A. Recuse themselves.
B. Be indicted for perjury.
