HEADLINE: Shows anti-Trump bias

| January 31, 2020 12:00 AM

The Jan. 30 Coeur d’Alene Press front page tease, “Trump defense: Ukraine ‘quid pro quo’ not impeachable,” refers readers to an Associated Press article appearing on Page 4. Although the content of the referenced article seems fair, the headline is nothing more than Fake News.

The headline implies that Trump’s defense team admitted that there was a quid pro quo, but that the quid pro quo is not impeachable. That is nonsense. As reported in the article, Senator Cruz merely asked, does it matter if there is a quid pro quo? And Attorney Alan Dershowitz explained “simply, no;” every politician conflates his own interest with the public interest.

Therefore, even if there were a quid pro quo, “it cannot be impeachable.” The defense team did not concede a quid pro quo occurred as implied by the tease appearing on Page 1 and in the bold headline of the article on Page 4.

In conclusion, as has been noted in many letters to the editor, the regular World/Nation section of The Press, picked up daily from the Associated Press, often contains obviously biased reporting. The referenced article by Associated Press reporters doesn’t fall far from the tree! The Press can do better than this.
