Gennett invited to national
high school slam dunk competition
Post Falls High senior Colby Gennett is one of 16 senior players nationwide invited to participate in a virtual slam-dunk contest of sorts, which could lead to an actual slam-dunk competition.
Gennett has been identified as among 16 of the top “under the radar” dunkers in high school basketball by American Family Insurance, sponsors of the competition.
According to the company, “These are players who aren’t your 5-star prospects, but are players that are elite dunkers and deserve to be on the national stage.”
The contest is dubbed the American Family Insurance Dream Fearlessly Fan Vote Competition.
These 16 players will then compete in an online bracket-style fan vote at www.highschoolslam.com, which will post a bio of each player, and a video of them dunking — in a game, or open gym, or wherever.
The eventual winner will be invited to join other dunkers at a high school slam dunk contest in Atlanta, held in conjunction with the men’s Final Four.
Round 1 of the fan vote will be Feb. 11-18. The eight winners (top vote-getters) in each matchup will advance to Round 2, scheduled for Feb. 19-26. Those four winners will advance to the semifinals Feb. 27-March 5, with the championship set for March 6-13.
