Avery's big day lifts Lake City

| January 26, 2020 12:00 AM

COEUR d’ALENE — Aubrey Avery tied a school record with nine 3-pointers and finished with a career-high 31 points as the Lake City Timberwolves rolled to a 67-37 victory over the Lewis and Clark Tigers in nonleague play on Saturday.

Avery, who hit 9 of 14 from distance, matched the school 3s record set by Jasmyn Smith in December 2011. Her 31 points bettered by one her previous best, set earlier this season vs. Sandpoint.

“Lewis and Clark came out and played a zone. Obviously their biggest concern was Brooklyn (Rewers, a 6-foot-4 post). They were determined to take that away,” Lake City coach James Anderson said. “That created opportunites for our guards to get good looks.”

Rewers scored eight of her 23 points in the fourth quarter for Lake City (13-5).

“Once we made 6 or 7 (3s), they stretched out their zone,” Anderson said. “The kids did a good job moving the ball, and Brooklyn got some good looks inside.”

Lake City finished with 12 3s, two by Ashlynn Shanley.

Macey Grant led Lewis and Clark (7-8) with 16 points.

Lake City plays host to Post Falls on Tuesday, looking to wrap up the 5A Inland Empire League title.
