Ken Detherage, 77

Ken Detherage, 77, of Coeur d’Alene, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2020. He is survived by Karen, his wife of 30 years, daughter Shannon Bennett, step-daughters Jennifer McGrath and Angie Hilding, grandchildren Walter, Emily, Grant, David, Sam, Ben and Daniel and three great grandchildren. Also sisters LuAnn and Roberta, brothers Howard, David and Joseph, and mother-in-law Darline Prosser. Ken was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara.

Ken grew up in Kelso, Wash., where he excelled in high school sports. He moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1977 and officiated local sporting events. His love of sports continued throughout his life. Ken owned and operated the Rainier Beer distributorship and later started Ken’s Tap Cleaning and Bar Supplies and continued that business for many years, finally selling to Insight Distributing, where he was employed until his retirement in April 2019.

Ken and Karen enjoyed many years boating on Lake Pend Oreille with a group of wonderful friends. Eventually, the fun times were moved to their backyard, where many celebrations occurred. The kids were there for birthdays, swimming and holidays, always with Ken manning the grill.

At his request, there will be no official service. There will be a scattering of his ashes at a later date.
