Dylan McCaughan, son of Steve and Julie McCaughan of Hayden, has achieved Boy Scouting’s highest rank, that of Eagle Scout.

McCaughan, 18, is a member of Boy Scout Troop 911, chartered by Coeur d’Alene Shrine Club, under the leadership of former Scoutmaster Travis Drechsel and current Scoutmaster Dan Gallagher.

McCaughan began his scouting career as a Tiger Cub with Pack 215 and continued through Cub Scouting to achieve the highest award, the Arrow of Light.

As a member of Troop 911, McCaughan has held numerous leadership positions, including patrol leader, troop guide and instructor. He has also earned 29 merit badges and the 50-Miler Award.

For his Eagle Scout Service Project, McCaughan coordinated a project designed to help soundproof and improve sound quality in the music rooms of his high school, Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy. Under his direction, scouts and adult volunteers completed the project that took more than 250 man-hours. He would like to thank his troop members and leaders, family and friends, and school staff for their work on the project which was completed in March 2019.

McCaughan is a senior at Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy, where he is a member of the wind ensemble, jazz band, soccer team, tennis team, academic team and the school’s chapter of the National Honor Society. He reached his goal of Eagle on Aug. 21, 2019, and was presented his Eagle Scout award during a Court of Honor ceremony on Jan. 11.
