WINTER: More driving safety
Good column by Sholeh Patrick on Tuesday. Too many don’t adhere to most of those hints for winter driving.
The only one that has a gotcha to the slow down/but don’t stop is the four-way stop sign. It is where knowing the exact timing/order of the other three vehicles is paramount to entering the intersection.
One can sometimes know the vehicle driver that has not paid attention and either enters early or waits until someone else has made a move when that person is next.
In these situations pulling up to a definitive stop is the only way to make things work smoothly, at least to those folks who pay attention.
One intersection today that I found too slick to handle well was the four-way stop signs at Hayden Avenue and Ramsey when I went out to shovel the pad in front of my hangar. Tires slide on slow stopping and on attempts to accelerate smoothly from a stop.
Slick, slick, slick.
