PRESS: How to improve 'rag'
During a recent conversation with a friend he made reference to an opinion piece in “Hag’s Rag” a.k.a. the Coeur d’Alene Press. When asked why the odious appellation, his response was that this once fine newspaper now does a great job only on sports, weather and local politics.
They rely on left leaning AP and Chuck Malloy and David Adler to give us their opinions (stated as fact) on what is happening internationally and in the state of Idaho. Another person who gets a lot of ink is Jim Jones (I believe is his name). A retired Idaho Supreme Court judge who also served in Vietnam. He was a big supporter of Prop II that was supported from Liberal organizations from outside the state. While it did pass, it was underwater here in the panhandle.
On a page they call World/Nation, it is direct copy (the entire column) from AP. Every opinion is usually anti-Republican or pro global warming, the Dems, religion. About 10 years ago journalism died! Not only in the social media but in all the major news feeds.
This should change. To The Press, I would recommend spending the money for a guest columnist. Give both sides a platform! I believe if you did this, you would increase your circulation. My recommendation would be the words of folks like Larry Elder, Dennis Prager or Victor Davis Hansen. The only “Art” that can be seen around town and the condescending attitudes of Wood and Christi, in my opinion, does not represent North Idaho.
