SPIRIT LAKE — Jacob James scored 15 points for the Tigers, who were held scoreless in the third quarter of a loss to the Bears at Timberlake High.
“I thought we played good defense throughout,” said Timberlake coach Mike Menti, whose team led 24-23 at halftime. “They’re huge and a lot bigger than us. You just can’t score zero points in the third quarter. We’ve got to keep working at it. We were up 1 at halftime, and that was it. We kept taking good shots, but were missing them. We’ve got to pick it up and keep getting better.”
Timberlake (1-9) hosts Lakeland on Jan. 14.
Blake Buchanan scored 16 points for Moscow.

BOISE — The Timberwolves had their chances in the fourth quarter and overtime, but fell to the defending state 5A champion Mustangs at Timberline High on day 2 of the Timber-Lion Tournament.
Betsey King, sister of former Eagle star Janie King, now a sophomore for the University of Idaho women’s team, hit two free throws with some 20 seconds left to force overtime. In OT, King was fouled on a 3-pointer, and hit all three free throws to put Eagle (7-6) ahead to stay at 41-39 with 1 1/2 minutes left.
“We’ve struggled this year playing back-to-back games,” said Lake City coach James Anderson, whose squad lost to 5A Southern Idaho Conference-leading Timberline on Thursday night. “Today they (the Mustangs) came out with a lot of intensity, and it took us a while to match that intensity.”
Junior forward Brooklyn Rewers had 21 points and 10 rebounds for Lake City (8-4), and now has 43 points and 18 boards in the two tourney games. Kendall Pickford had four assists, Jaya Miller four steals for the Timberwolves.
“Brooklyn’s been awesome; she’s been totally dialed in and been a difference maker,” Anderson said. “We haven’t shot the ball well down here.”
King, a senior guard, led all scorers with 24 points.
Lake City has now played four of the top five teams in the 5A CIL this season, including two on this trip.
“It’s been really good for us; the teams down here are real physical,” Anderson said. “We’re taking some steps in the right direction.”
Lake City wraps up tourney play vs. 4A Caldwell today at 9:15 a.m. PST at Timberline.
