Timberlake advances to state 3A play-in game
SPIRIT LAKE — With a little bit of balance, Timberlake earned itself another opportunity to advance to the state 3A tournament next week in Meridian.
Zach Yetter scored 15 points, Wyatt Dickinson 14 points for the Tigers in a 61-38 win over the fourth-seeded Priest River Spartans in the District 1 second-place game at Timberlake High on Thursday.
“Offensively, we were really spread out with a lot of kids playing well and scoring the ball,” second-year Timberlake coach Mike Menti said. “It gets us one more game at least.”
Timberlake (7-16) faces Marsh Valley (15-10) at Weiser High on Saturday at noon PST, with the winner advancing to state starting next Thursday.
Jacob James scored 10 points for Timberlake.
Caden Brennan scored 12 of his team-high 13 points in the third quarter for Priest River, which finishes 5-16.
“We knew we had to pay a lot of attention to Brennan,” Menti said. “We did a good job of holding him in check in the first half, and fourth quarter. We played some great defense and having four kids in double figures, that’s a good night.”
