SOCIALISM: Good blend with capitalism
I was so impressed by John Strobel’s Guest Opinion that I was going to write to say so. I regret not doing that. The three insulting answers he received in The Press completely missed the point of John’s article.
When we defend “socialism,” it isn’t the socialism connected with communism, or the one from the dictionary. The government services our government provides alongside the capitalistic economic freedom we enjoy is “democratic” socialism, not “communistic” socialism. John clearly explains that.
What does retirement Social Security have to do with socialism, since it is something we pay for? Well, it is administered by our government Social Security system, from the tax we pay during our working years. Any idiot can see that our country has plenty of “socialism.” I can see that.
As I enjoy the income from my investments in capitalism, I also enjoy the income I get from my Social Security insurance program, into which I’ve paid premiums. I also was free to invest in any other “insurance” programs to realize many more profits during my life.
These people who are so full of fear of the word socialism simply cannot see that the blending of socialism and capitalism is a major difference among countries, and the chief reason our country is the greatest experiment in government the world has ever seen. I’m sure John would agree with me that extremes of anything, even good things, are mostly bad. Neither extreme socialism nor extreme capitalism is good. We have neither extreme.
Keep America Great Again.
By the way, very few immigrants to our country come from the Scandinavian countries to escape the socialism in their government.
