SOCIALISM: Another perspective

| February 23, 2020 12:00 AM

I read Tom Lawrence, Lagonda McDonald and C.R. Becker’s well-written but not thought-out opinions about how John Stobel’s article was full of “Obama goobily goop lies” about how our system of governance is socialistic.

There was one portion of John’s article that was a little fuzzy about who the National Socialist represented. They were the NAZIS. The German Democratic Socialist Party was more than 50 years old when Hitler violently outlawed the majority party in 1932 and the National Socialist (NAZI) started a campaign of violently rounding up the Jews, gypsies, communists and anybody who expressed their progressive beliefs.

These targeted people were then beaten, killed, herded into ghettos and eventually put into freight cars and hauled to the system of death camps. History is clear. What isn’t clear is what we call our system. A fascistic system is one that commerce dictates the laws and the people fall in line. Similar to 1930s and 1940s Italy and Germany.

The U.S. and many other industrial nations are, in my opinion, Democratic Social Capitalism, in which the people (workers) make the laws that protect the citizens first and then commerce. Our most famous Democratic Socialist was Franklin D. Roosevelt.

To close, I want to say that I feel that John Stobel’s article was a good description of our society and the government of and for the people.

Suggestion: Study history and flesh out all the “isms.”
