NIC BASKETBALL: Cardinal women top YVC

• WOMEN

COEUR d’ALENE — Sydnie Peterson’s 3-pointer with 1:15 left broke a 60-all tie, and North Idaho College went on to upend second-place Yakima Valley 65-62 in a Northwest Athletic Conference East Region women’s basketball game Saturday afternoon at Rolly Williams Court.

Halle Eborall had 18 points and 10 rebounds for NIC (16-10, 10-5 NWAC), which moved into a tie for third with Wenatchee Valley. Alex Carlton had 10 points and 12 boards for the Cardinals, and Anna Schrade had 13 rebounds.

Jenni Johnson had 19 points for Yakima Valley (21-7, 11-4).

NIC, which clinched a berth in the NWAC tournament earlier in the week, plays host to Columbia Basin (8-19, 5-10) on Wednesday to conclude the regular season.

COEUR d’ALENE — Nate Pryor totaled 29 points, eight assists and three steals as the East Region champion Cardinals pulled away in the second half to defeat the Yaks in NWAC play at Rolly Williams Court.

Christian Guess added 21 points for NIC (27-1, 15-0), which won its 17th straight game. Emmit Taylor III hit 5 of 9 3-pointers and added 20 points off the bench, and James Carlson, a sophomore from Lake City High, added 16 points.

Chris Murphy scored 22 points for Yakima Valley (10-16, 7-8).

NIC, which is ineligible for postseason play for the next three seasons, wraps up its season Wednesday at home vs. Columbia Basin.
