SCOUTS: Can't duck this
Three hundred lawsuits are currently facing national BSA, with a possible 1,400 more in the wings. BSA is declaring it is bankrupt to preserve scouting and to build up a victim’s compensation trust fund. National has about $1.3 billion in assets. The lawyers will be demanding that the affected local council assets be up for grabs also. BSA alleges that more than 90% of the abuse occurred more than 30 years ago. Time will tell how self-serving that statement may be.
Who were these people, of 30 years ago, who are accused of abusing boys? What a phrase for a despicable behavior. Could it be that they were not the morally straight and upright men that our Scouts were to have as examples?
During the Cold War, the FBI had a theory. If it squawked like a duck, if it waddled like a duck, if it looked like a duck, and if it associated with ducks, it was probably a communist.
Children deserve protection and to unnecessarily expose them to possible/probable abuse is wrong by any standard. The Mormon Church did not withdraw its support of scouting on a whim. Social engineering can have both predictable and unpredictable results.
National BSA gave into moral relativism. The standards of the day decide what is right and what is wrong and that is a prescription for a quick trip to hell.
Very sad for the Scouts. Their 1908 founder, General Baden-Powell, a genuine British hero of the Boer War, would never have failed to protect the innocent young lads under his care.
