Heath Gregory Scott Okon, 47
Heath Gregory Scott Okon, 47, passed away peacefully at home in Sandpoint, Idaho, on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2020, after a long, brave battle with synovial sarcoma. Please join us in celebrating his life at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2020, at Cedar Hills Church, 227 McGhee Road, Sandpoint.
Heath was born on Aug. 29, 1972, in Coeur d’Alene, to Ron and Vicki Okon. He graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1990. He married his best friend and love, Diana John, on April 10, 1993, in Coeur d’Alene. They had two sons whom he treasured, Brycen, born March of 1996, and Christian, born August 2001.
Heath moved to Sandpoint at the age of 23 to open and manage Perfection Tire. He started with the company at age 16. He loved his job.
Heath loved spending time with his family. He had an appreciation for the outdoors, including camping, hiking, fishing, boating and golfing, but most of all fly fishing. He had an enormous knowledge and passion for sports — whether coaching, playing or watching. He especially loved the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He was a man of humility, self-sacrifice, honesty, strength of mind, compassion, love and just a touch of sarcasm.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Diana Okon; their sons Brycen and Christian Okon; daughter-in-law, Crystal Okon; parents Ron and Vicki Okon; father and mother-in-law, Jerry and Renate John; brothers Joe and Dustin Okon; brother and sister-in-law, Andreas and Michelle John; nieces Taryn John and Morgan and Mallory Okon; and nephews Kyler John, Payton and TJ Okon. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorial donations can be made at GoFundMe, helping Heath crush cancer.
