SOCIALISM: He said what?

| February 18, 2020 1:00 AM

John Strobel wrote a guest opinion I cannot follow. He fabricates an American socialism that none of the Founders or any politician recognized even until today. He alleges the American socialism is unrelated to that in Cuba, Venezuela, the USSR, or Nazi Germany but never explains the difference.

His first shot at explaining this is American socialism “built us roads, highways and bridges, and provides funds to maintain all of these critical structures so critical to the success of capitalism.” So, the Egyptians were socialists because they collectively built the pyramids? The Romans were socialists because they taxed their people and built roads and bridges all over Europe? I have a degree in European History and never got this angle.

American socialism “keeps our roads clear of snow and provides specialists who respond to avalanches.” From the time countries plowed a road in winter they were socialistic. From this I have no idea what his view of American socialism is.

But here is the point of this nonsense: “So Sen. Risch, Idaho voters deserve to hear the truth, which you heard during the impeachment trial. With your vote to acquit the president, you assured your place in the history books.” What does this unrelated, disjointed reference to impeachment have to do with anything Strobel was trying to say?

He finishes with “all the lies coming out of the White House. One of those lies is about what socialism is and isn’t.”

This incoherent mess is a result of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS). The Press needs to tighten up its standards for an Op/Ed.
