ROMNEY: He's no Maverick

| February 16, 2020 12:00 AM

To say that Mitt Romney is the only GOP member of both the House and the Senate who has the morals and/or intelligence to vote to convict is certainly selling a lot of legislators short. Maybe there is some partisanship on display.

My thought is that Romney is an irrelevant person who is seeking relevance at all costs.

Since his surrender during the failed presidential run, he has been a candidate looking for an office.

He said his faith was a guiding principle during his speech. My opinion is that it was simply an excuse.

While I respect the Marine Captain who wrote last Sunday, I could not disagree with him more. To associate Mitt Romney with any United States Marine is extremely off base. Courage is not self-aggrandizement, not acting out with jealousy and individually seeking limelight. Marines serve the nation as a unit. They are not self-serving!

Romney endeavors to be like Sen. John McCain since the media brought that up during his Utah senate run. John McCain was a real maverick. Like him or not, he EARNED his position and reputation. He sacrificed dearly for our country and had the right to say or do things that people or party disagreed with. God rest his soul, he was one of a kind.

Romney has no such background, no sacrifices, no service, no special contributions to our nation.

I wish Romney the best with his newfound friends in Hollywood. They were so supportive during his campaign. I suspect once Utah gives him his walking papers, that he will move back to California and find an office to run for. Much more fitting for him than Utah.
