TERM LIMITS: Time for action
With the election coming up I would like to suggest this newspaper research and publish how we the people can get term limits on the ballot.
It fascinates me that a policy which enjoys such overwhelming support of the public is so seldom mentioned. We as a country have allowed such abuse of the system that now we essentially have a ruling class and not the public service for which elected office was intended.
Some people, in particular those in office, argue “elections are the best term limit.” How’s that working?
I propose term limits combined with no federal retirement for elected office would go a long way toward true elected representation. Politicians need to have no option but to return to private life and live under the laws they have written and retire on Social Security and whatever they put into a 401k like the rest of us. This would also be the last we ever hear of Social Security going broke and being referred to as an “entitlement.”
I would also wager Social Security payments would stop being taxed as well. I am aware of the Convention of States option but am apprehensive of the corrupt individuals already in office getting too much influence in this process.
If two terms were good enough for George Washington, it’s good enough for any of the current crop of corrupt parasites for whom we are currently financing a bloated lifestyle and retirement.
