POEM: Lasting love
She visited her beloved today,
And did the day before,
Thinking of him again,
And will tomorrow once more.
6 days short of her 66th anniversary,
She stands at his grave alone in silence,
Thinking of all the times together,
While heavy tears escape in his remembrance.
Of a husband beloved,
And a father treasured,
A grandfather revered,
And a man respected.
“I will visit you tomorrow,” she whispered,
“And again the day after.”
Their commitment like many before them will serve as testament
To an enduring love story’s ending chapter.
Of when she first visited him,
And he first held her,
Breathing life with every memory shared,
Encouraged of the promise of a time, soon again, together.
Dedicated to Jerry and Carol Cawdrey.
