URDs: Let people vote

| February 12, 2020 12:00 AM

I’m going to keep it to the point. The citizens of Kootenai County are being denied an opportunity to vote by Commissioners Bill Brooks and Chris Fillios.

Mr. Brooks claims to be in your corner and prior to deleting his Facebook page had stated he is against Urban Renewal Districts and will vote for advisory votes for all future URDs. Just not the Health Corridor URD. The Health Corridor is the largest URD to date in Kootenai County; Urban Renewal Districts act as a government slush fund from taxpayer dollars. They draw money from all tax streams throughout the county.

The URDs are plagued with incestuous relationships, cronyism and conflicts of interest. Here we are with an opportunity to let our voices be heard and we have current elected officials denying us that right. Please contact your commissioners and let them know that we want a chance to be heard. Brooks and Fillios will both be asking for your vote this year, ironically preventing you a vote at the same time.
