POST FALLS — In a close game, each point matters.
Those foul shots, they mattered in Friday’s game between Lakeside and Genesis Prep.
Day Day Higgins, Talon Twoteeth and Kenyon Spotted Horse scored 14 points each as Lakeside, ranked No. 1 in 1A Division II in this week’s media poll, edged Genesis Prep, the four-time defending District 1 champions, 62-59 at The Courts at Real Life Ministries.
Steven Burgess scored 17 points for Genesis Prep, which finished 7 of 17 from the free-throw line.
Lakeside was 8 for 15 from the line.
“It was a good game, both teams played hard and competed,” Genesis Prep coach Marsell Colbert said. “What hurt us more than anything was free throws, and second chance points. We gave up way too many second chance opportunities. We’d play good defense for 25 seconds, they’d get a shot up, and they’d beat us to the ball.”
Lakeside (13-0) faces North Idaho Christian on Monday at Holy Family Catholic School in Coeur d’Alene.
Genesis Prep (7-7) travels to Deer Park today.
