Post Falls' victory like a shot in the dark
POST FALLS — Once the lights went low, the Post Falls girls pulled away.
Lexi Heath hit four 3-pointers and scored 21 points as the Trojans downed the Lewiston Bengals 71-46 in the 5A Inland Empire League finale for both teams Friday night at The Arena.
Post Falls (11-9, 2-4 5A IEL) clinched the No. 3 seed to the Region 1 tournament, and will travel to No. 2 Coeur d’Alene in a first-round game next Friday at 6:30.
Caitlin Richardson scored 18 points, Emily Collins 15 for Lewiston (2-17, 0-6), which will play at top-seeded Lake City in the other first-round game next Friday at 6:30.
Post Falls led 44-35 late in the third quarter when a power outage took out the main lights in the gym. Thanks to a generator, the backup, flourescent lights came back on, and the teams played the final 9-plus minutes under limited light.
“Actually, it did us some good,” said Post Falls coach Marc Allert, whose team scored the game’s next 15 points when play resumed following a 21-minute delay. “We kinda regrouped a little bit, and came out with a little more energy.
“We need to dim the lights before each game,” he added with a laugh. “We shot better after the lights were dim.”
Ali Carpenter added 15 points, Katie Fleming 11 for Post Falls.
