Andrew J. Hightower, 100

Andrew J. Hightower, 100 years old, peacefully passed away on Monday, Dec. 27, 2020, at the Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene.

Andrew was born in Watts, Okla., on June 18, 1920. He was the son of Felix Hightower and Ucal Ingram. Andrew married Elsie Sandra Maki and they had two daughters, Linda Marie Polzin and Gloria Jean Jennings.

With the outbreak of WWII, Andrew was drafted into the Army in 1944 and served his time as a frontline rifleman in the Texas 36th Division. He was a self-educated man, a jack-of-all-trades, working as a logger, miner, auto mechanic and a business owner in Kellogg and Spokane.

He enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends, always extending a helping hand to those he knew. Andrew had a green thumb and loved to work in the garden. He also spent much of his time designing silver jewelry and selling at gem shows. He has accomplished much in his lifetime.

Andrew was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Sandra; three sisters, Jewel, Clara and Betty; and two brothers, Wilson and William. He is survived by daughters, Linda M. Polzin (Jim) and Gloria J. Jennings. (Louie). He has five grandchildren: Monique Siedschlag (Mark), Rebecca Koltz (Daniel), Davin Jennings (Stephanie), Heidi Young, and Derek Jennings; eight great-grandchildren: Erika Tuffli (Kyle), Ethan Siedschlag (Erin), Brieanne Hayman (Cody), Courtney Jennings, Hailey Kuntz (Kolten), Abigail Koltz-Martin (Taylor), Caleb Koltz (Madisyn) and Seth Koltz; and four great-great-grandchildren: Brinley Hayman, Peyton Hayman, Margot Siedschlag and Rhiannon Tuffli.

A private family memorial will be held in 2021. Yates Funeral Home is entrusted with final arrangements.
