Woman dies after car plunges into river

BONNERS FERRY — A Bonners Ferry woman died and another was hospitalized after the car they were in went off U.S. 95 and plunged into the Kootenai River on Monday.

According to the Idaho State Police, a 2007 Saturn Vue driven by Shannon D. Taylor, 34, was southbound when the vehicle left the roadway about 9:30 a.m. at milepost 532.2, south of Eastport. It traveled about 175 feet and came to rest fully submerged on its top in the river.

The passenger, Alicia P. Taylor, 56, was transported by ambulance to Boundary Community Hospital, where she was then transported by air ambulance to Kootenai Health.

Shannon Taylor was pronounced deceased at the scene, ISP reported.

Both occupants were wearing seat belts.

An investigation continues.
