MOSCOW — Blake Buchanan had 12 points and eight blocked shots, Kolten Mitchell 15 points and five assists for the Lake City Timberwolves in a 54-52 win over the Moscow Bears in Inland Empire League play at Bear Den on Wednesday night.

“Blake had a great defensive game tonight,” Lake City coach Jim Winger said. “Moscow played as hard as you can play. They had their ‘A’ game and we took a good shot on the chin. Both team really got after it and played with a ton of emotion.”

Jack Kiesbuy scored 14 points for Lake City (3-0, 2-0 IEL), which faces Century High of Pocatello in the Middleton Christmas Tournament today at 5 p.m.

Joe Colter scored 11 points for Moscow (1-2).

“Moscow made 10 3-pointers and played consistent throughout the game,” Winger said. “This was a great matchup for us. Both teams got better tonight.”

PLUMMER — Early in the first quarter, Lakeside coach James Twoteeth took Kenyon Spotted Horse out for a brief moment.

Then, Spotted Horse responded — scoring 34 points, including his 1,000th of his career — as the Knights ran past the Trojans JV at Ron Miller Court.

“They’d cut the deficit to eight in the first quarter, so I took him out,” Twoteeth said. “Then he went back in and had 10-12 steals and got most of his points out of the top of the zone. It happened so quick, I didn’t even know he was close to 1,000, so that was good to see him get that.”

Day Day Higgins scored 24 points, JJ Hall 11 points for Lakeside (4-1), which returns to action on Jan. 5 against Kellogg at home.

Neil McCarthy scored 19 points for the Post Falls JV.

COEUR d'ALENE — Wednesday's dual between the Trojans and Timberwolves was postponed following a power outage at Lake City High.

According to Lake City coach Corey Owen, wrestlers were beginning weigh-ins at 3 p.m., with JV matches to begin at 4:30.

"Our generator kicked on and then suddenly it went out again," Owen said. "It was pitch black in the gym at 3:30, so (Post Falls coach) Pete (Reardon) and I decided to postpone the match, since we didn't know how long it was going to last. We certainly were going to start late, but with a lot of season left, we'll get it in somewhere."
