PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Burke sparks Coeur d'Alene to victory at Lewiston

LEWISTON — Skylar Burke scored 26 points and the Coeur d’Alene Vikings started fast en route to a 63-34 victory over the Lewiston Bengals in Inland Empire League play Tuesday.

Jaelyn Brainard-Adams added nine points for Coeur d’Alene (5-0, 4-0 IEL), which led 18-4 after one quarter.

Taryn Barney led Lewiston (2-4, 1-4) with 11 points.

MOSCOW — Addie Kiefer had 23 points, seven rebounds and five assists as the visiting Hawks beat the Bears for the second time in 11 days, in IEL play at Bear Den.

Katy Ryan added 16 points, seven rebounds, six blocked shots and five assists for Lakeland (4-3, 2-2). Abbey Neff added six points and seven boards for the Hawks.

“Addie and Katy put on a passing clinic in the first half,” Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. “Each of them did really did a good job of finding the other post.”

Angela Lassen scored 13 points for Moscow (0-3, 0-2), which was missing three starters in the Bears’ 48-29 loss at Lakeland on Dec. 5.

Lakeland plays host to Lewiston on Saturday.

ST. MARIES — Taryn Soumas scored 14 of her game-high 22 points in the first half for the Tigers in a win over the Lumberjacks.

“Timberlake, they’ve got so many weapons on offense,” St. Maries coach Gary Krumheuer said. “Between Soumas and (Brooke) Jessen, they’ve got girls that can knock down shots. It’s going to be a tough matchup for anyone that plays Timberlake this year. But we were able to work on some things that will hopefully help ups toward the end of the season.”

Jessen scored 13 points for Timberlake (6-1), which hosts Coeur d’Alene on Thursday.

Jenna Holder scored eight points for St. Maries (2-5), which returns to action at Genesee on Jan. 2.

“We were able to score in bunches tonight,” Lakeside coach Chris Dohrman said. “We were able to do what we needed to do early on and get some of our other players in the game. It was a good game for us overall.”

Ashlee Holt scored 12 points for Lakeside (3-3), which hosts the Post Falls JV on Friday.

Katelyn Matteson scored 15 points for Clark Fork (1-3), which competes in the Priest River Christmas Tournament on Friday.
