PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: Vikings rally late, but fall at Lewiston

| December 16, 2020 1:20 AM

LEWISTON — Cameren Cope scored 10 of his 16 points in the second half and finished with 11 rebounds for Coeur d’Alene, which cut a 19-point deficit down to six in the fourth quarter before falling to the Lewiston Bengals 52-43 in an Inland Empire League game at Lewiston High on Tuesday.

“We had to go to Cameren more in the second half,” said Coeur d’Alene coach Jon Adams, whose team trailed 29-16 at halftime. “Our press started to get to them a little bit in the fourth quarter. We played well down the stretch, but didn’t execute on some free throws or turnovers we created. We just got started too late, but dominated the fourth quarter. We just got down too big in the first and second quarter.”

Chandler King and Owen Smith scored six points each for Coeur d’Alene (2-1, 1-1 IEL), which competes in the Tiger-Grizz Tournament in Idaho Falls Dec. 28-30.

Joel Mullikin scored 12 points for Lewiston (4-0, 3-0), which hosts Lakeland on Saturday.
