Diana Lou Bumpus (née Simpson)

| December 15, 2020 1:00 AM

Diana Lou Bumpus, née Simpson, died in her son’s arms on Dec. 8, 2020, from complications of COVID-19 while recovering from surgery. Diana was born July 20, 1943, in Spokane, Wash., graduating from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1961. After pursuing higher education at Pacific Lutheran University and Morehead State University, she held many different job titles over the years, moving from Seattle to Los Angeles before returning to Coeur d’Alene to stay in 1994.

Diana is survived by her son, Craig Leigh Shoquist and grandson, Cole, whom she shared with her former spouse, Marshall Shoquist; her brother, Jim (Paula) Simpson, and nieces Christina, Amy and Marissa. She will also be remembered by her cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Boyd Bumpus; her parents, Jim and Marjorie Simpson; and her grandparents, Thomas and Clara Jacobsen, longtime Coeur d’Alene residents.

Diana loved her son, Craig, and grandson, Cole (age 6), who was the light of her life during her final years with us. She gave much of her time and talents to the church she grew up in, Trinity Lutheran, and other community activities.

Arrangements are being made by Yates Funeral home. Due to current restrictions, a memorial service will be planned for a later time. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
