Verle James VanDewerker

Verle James VanDewerker passed away Dec. 5, 2020, at his home, surrounded by his family.

One of 10 children, Verle was born in Camp Crook, S.D., Aug. 14, 1945, to Laurence “Buster” and Margaret VanDewerker.

He attended school in Camp Crook and Buffalo, S.D., graduating high school in 1963. He served in the U.S. Army in 1965, receiving an honorable discharge in 1967. Thank you for your service, Verle.

He worked many years in road construction and when the Colstrip, Montana “boom” began, he worked for Long Construction and Western Energy, until retiring in 2002.

An avid team roper, he enjoyed the sport and working his ranch North of Colstrip.

After retirement, he and his wife, Laurie, moved to Hayden, Idaho, where his greatest joy was being “Grandpa” to Parks and Seeley VanDewerker.

Verle is survived by his wife of 43 years, Laurie (Nagel) VanDewerker of Hayden; his son, Ryan (Kelly) VanDewerker; grandchildren, Parks and Seeley VanDewerker; his brother, Rick (Helen) VanDewerker; his sister, Fran Spoon; and many other family and friends.

A memorial for Verle will be held at a later date.
