PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Rewers, Reynolds lead Lake City past Sandpoint

| December 12, 2020 1:16 AM

COEUR d’ALENE — Brooklyn Rewers totaled 23 points and 14 rebounds as the Lake City Timberwolves rolled past the Sandpoint Bulldogs 67-34 in Inland Empire League play Friday.

Emberlyn Reynolds, a 6-foot sophomore post, added 13 points for Lake City (3-2, 2-1 IEL).

“Brooklyn really set the tone, right from the tip, and looked to elevate her teammates,” Lake City coach James Anderson said. “Emberlyn piggybacked off that, all the attention Brooklyn was getting. Emberlyn and Brooklyn did a great job playing off each other (in the high-low game).”

Sophia Zufelt added 10 points, and Kendall Pickford hit three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and finished with nine points and nine assists for the Timberwolves.

“I just liked that we came out more focused, and looked to play inside/out,” Anderson said. “We kept the ball moving — tried to go from a good shot to a great shot. Our kids needed to get into some rhythm; I felt we broke loose tonight.”

Hattie Larson and Kaylee Banks scored 10 points each for Sandpoint (2-4, 1-2).

Lake City returns to action Dec. 19 at home vs. Moscow in a makeup game.

ST. MARIES — Macie Rimel scored 16 of her team-high 18 points in the first half for the Lumberjacks, but first-half turnovers plagued the host team in a loss to the Maniacs in the Central Idaho League opener for both at St. Maries High.

“In the first half, we had a lot of turnovers and their press turned us over quite a bit,” St. Maries coach Gary Krumheuer said. “We got to within five in the third quarter, but gave up too many second half points. Both teams were pressing and playing hard and it was a good high school game. They just made a few more plays than we did.”

Mackenzie Hammond scored 15 points for St. Maries (2-4), which hosts Timberlake on Tuesday.

Kaylynn Johnson scored 22 points and Grace Beardin scored 16 points for Orofino (4-0).
