PREP WRESTLING: Rudebaugh rallies in Post Falls romp

POST FALLS — After trailing in most of his match, John Rudebaugh didn’t quit fighting.

Rudebaugh scored a pin at 5 minutes, 59 seconds for the Post Falls Trojans — one of 12 on the night — against the Lewiston Bengals at The Arena on Thursday.

“It was a battle,” Post Falls coach Pete Reardon said of Rudebaugh’s match. “He put the kid on his back and just battled back. He did a great job.”

Zack Campbell (98), Tyson Barnhart (106), Roddy Romero (120), Ryan Graves (132), Alex Austin (138), Lane Reardon (145), John Rudebaugh (152), Ethan Miller (160), Jose Laguna (170), Trevor Miller (182), Tyler Cook (220) and Austin Portner (285) had pins for Post Falls in the 78-9 win.

“Our attitude and effort was great,” Reardon said. “We have some young kids that made some mistakes, but they’re learning and working hard and it was great to see tonight.”

Post Falls travels to Lake City on Wednesday.

COEUR d’ALENE — AJ Johnson got a takedown in the final seconds of the third period, then did it again for a win at 152 pounds for the Timberwolves, who beat the Spartans in their season opener at Lake City High.

“He did a good job of staying focused and wrestling hard,” Lake City coach Corey Owen said. “It was a fun match to watch.”Zach Macdonald (106), Matthew Whitcomb (182) and Ian Hampton also won by pin for Lake City, which hosts Post Falls on Wednesday.

Lake City was scheduled to wrestle Kellogg, but the Wildcats were unable to compete due to quarantine restrictions.
