Henry G. Brown, Jr., 75

| December 9, 2020 1:00 AM

Henry G. Brown Jr., 75, a loving husband, father and grandfather, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, Dec. 4, 2020. He will be forever missed by his family and friends for his unique character, quick wit, and ability to tell a good story.

Henry was born and raised in Jacksonville, Fla. After graduating from high school he joined the Navy, where he served in the Vietnam War aboard the USS Winston. It was during this time he met his lifelong Navy buddies. After completing his time in the service, he worked as an HVAC contractor and college instructor – working for Los Angeles Unified School District as a project manager, and teaching at El Camino College and South Coast College. He was a member of Local Union 72 Atlanta for 45 years, a life member of DAV 71 – Sherman 9 Coeur d’Alene, and he served as a Citizen on Patrol for Kootenai County.

Henry and his wife, Teresa, retired to Bayview, Idaho, in 2005. Henry loved nothing more than sitting on the balcony to watch the sunrise over Lake Pend Oreille. He and Teresa took numerous cruises, traveling through Asia, Europe, the Baltic and the Mediterranean. Henry greatly enjoyed the long days at sea and leisurely nights, but most of all he loved participating in the cruise line's model boat building contests. He often walked away with the blue ribbon.

Henry possessed the traits of a true veteran. His loyalty was unshakable; he was always willing to lend a helping hand and he would tell you the truth, even if you didn’t want to hear it. Whatever was needed, he would over-deliver. He will be greatly missed by many.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Henry’s caregiver, Anissa.

Henry is survived by his wife of 43 years, Teresa; five children: Henry Brown III, David Brown, Kimberly (Allen) Gopp, Patrick Brown and Allison-Buffy (Matthew); seven grandchildren; sister, Beth; mother-in-law, Gerry Nelson; and five nieces. Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Elizabeth Brown Sr.; brother, Rubin Kirkland Brown; brother-in-law, Clyde Russell; father-in-law, Harold Nelson; and niece, Kelli Jo Russell.

Yates Funeral Home is entrusted with final arrangements. Please visit Henry’s online memorial and sign his guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
