Charter girls soccer rolls in season opener

| August 25, 2020 8:17 AM

POST FALLS — The Coeur d’Alene Charter girls’ soccer team, with four straight 3A state titles under its belt, wasted little time getting its 2020 season off to a strong start.

Sarah Hines scored the first of her three goals in the game’s first minute, and the host Panthers rolled past the Coeur d’Alene High JV squad 5-0 on Monday afternoon at The Fields at Real Life Ministries.

“It’s always good to get the first game of the season under your belt to see what to focus on going forward,” Charter coach Stacy Smith said. “Like many programs in the area, several of our players hadn’t played in a game since October of last year. You could tell we were rusty with a few things like shooting in game situations and first touches, but overall I think the girls had a great first showing.”

Charter, which had 20 shots on goal in the victory, returns to action at Bonners Ferry on Saturday.

First half — 1. Charter, Sarah Hines (unassisted), 1:00. 2. Charter, S. Hines (Rebekah Hines), 15:00. 3. Charter, S. Hines (unassisted), 36:00. 4. Charter, CHS own goal, 40:00.

Second half — 5. Charter, Eden Hager (S. Hines), 58:00.
