BONNERS FERRY — Bonners Ferry scored twice at the start of the second half and was able to hold on late as the Badgers defeated the Timberlake Tigers 2-1 in the season and Intermountain League opener for both schools.

Charlie Hegstad scored in the first half for Timberlake, which is scheduled to travel to Grangeville on Friday.

“We made some mistakes, and we’ll learn from those mistakes,” Timberlake coach Steve Michael said. “We felt good about the match and knew Bonners was going to be a good team. They’ve been building a strong program for the past two years and played really well.”

Bonners Ferry travels to Priest River on Tuesday.
