Lawrence Wayne Lynott, age 77, of Rathdrum, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Aug. 1, 2020, following his long and courageous battle with COPD.

Lawrence was born on Aug. 18, 1942, in Oakland, Calif., to parents Stanley and Helen Lynott. He was the eldest of two sons.

He enlisted in the United States Air Force on Oct. 1, 1961, and was stationed at Travis Air Force Base, where he worked as an aircraft sheet metal mechanic.

On Oct. 20, 1961, Lawrence married the love of his life, Janet Corrine Lang, in San Leandro, Calif. They lived just off base in the small town of Fairfield, where they raised their two children.

On Oct. 4, 1964, Lawrence was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force. He became a patrol officer with the City of Fairfield Police Department on Oct. 15, 1964. During his law enforcement career, he worked as a patrol officer, narcotics investigator (spending some time undercover), and most recently as a motorcycle traffic officer before retiring on Aug. 18, 1995.

During his career in law enforcement, Lawrence also attended college at Solano Community College and then went on to attend Golden Gate University in San Francisco, where he made the dean’s list in December of 1973, and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in administration of justice.

In October of 1997, he and his wife, Janet, moved to Rathdrum, Idaho to be closer to his son, Don, and his family. It was there that he accepted Christ.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Corinne Lynott (Lang); parents Stanley and Helen Lynott; and brother, Ronald Lynott of Suisun, Calif.

Lawrence is survived by his daughter, Debi (Rick) Gewecke of Rathdrum; son, Don (Suzi) Lynott of Athol, Idaho; grandchildren Jonathan (Brandi) Wentz of Post Falls, Sarah (Coldiron) Tester of Rapid City, S.D., Stephanie Lynott of Renton, Wash., Joshua (Destyni) Lynott of Hauser Lake, Wash., Christi (Casey) McCann of Post Falls, Sheri (Jim) Denison of Post Falls, and great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Valmere, Davis, Deklen, Parker, Hunter, Adalynn, Kylie, Wesley, Bonner, Vanessa, Amanda, Breeah and Mason, as well as many extended family members, nieces and nephews.
