Police looking for white juvenile male who stole truck, disappeared after early morning chase

POST FALLS — Police are on the lookout for a young white male who stole a truck and evaded police after a pursuit in Post Falls early Monday morning.

Kootenai County Sheriff's Office deputies stopped a white Dodge pickup without its headlights on at 2:15 a.m. near Seltice Way and North Bay Street. The officers realized the vehicle had been recently stolen and the suspect fled in the vehicle, which was recovered when the suspect exited to flee on foot.

"It sustained some damage during the pursuit due to some maneuvers and him ramming a patrol car, but that was it," KCSO Lt. Ryan Higgins said Monday.

The suspect turned north on Idaho Street, dead-ended at Post Falls Middle School on East 16th Street and double-backed into the Quail Run, Singing Hills and Wind Song neighborhoods.

A K-9 unit was released as officers set up a perimeter, but the suspect was able to jump fences and get away. Higgins said police have received tips throughout the day and have a pretty good idea who the suspect may be.

"He's not a threat to anybody other than he likes to steal stuff,” Higgins said. "He’s known to the police, but nothing violent, just basic juvenile mischief."

Post Falls Police assisted in the pursuit.
