Bruce McKay

Bruce McKay passed from this earth on Aug. 2, 2020.

Bruce was born Oct. 26, 1931, in Plainfield, N.J., to Deroy and Mignon McKay. At the age of 13, the family moved to Alice, Texas. Bruce received his pilot’s license at the age of 16, before he got his driver’s license. He graduated from high school as the valedictorian of his class, then enlisted in the Air Force after high school. He took the test to become a cadet to learn to fly jets. He aced the test.

He met and married Sue Parker and they have five children: Bruce Jr., David, Mary, Daphne and Wayne McKay. Bruce has four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

In 2004 he met Marian Perry. They were married in 2007 and enjoy taking trips to Center Target in Post Falls.

Bruce enjoyed designing and building remote control airplanes, which he loved to fly. Bruce was a pilot for Capital Airline and also flew for the Bureau of Land Management. He and his crew put out the fire on Campfire Mountain in the 1970s.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father; his brother, Greg and his son, Bruce Jr. Bruce is survived by his wife, Marian McKay; his sister and brother-in-law, Gail and Ed; his children, David, Mary, Daphne and Wayne McKay; and his four grandchildren and three great -grandchildren.

At his request there will be no funeral. Any memorial donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
