Coeur d’Alene High football opener

vs. Alaska school canceled

Coeur d’Alene High’s previously scheduled home opening football game on Aug. 21 against East High of Anchorage has been canceled due to the Alaskan school not being able to travel due its school district postponing athletic activity until the start of school on Aug. 20.

Coeur d’Alene, scheduled to begin practices on Friday, will now start training on Monday according to Viking coach Shawn Amos, who said the programs are still trying to schedule games in the next two years.

“We are going to try to have a home-and-home with them,” Amos said. “We’re just not sure how it will shake out.”

Coeur d’Alene, now with seven games on its schedule after having games against Mount Spokane (Sept. 4), Gonzaga Prep (Sept. 11), North Creek (Sept. 18) and Union (Sept. 25) canceled after Washington moved its football season to the spring — opens the season at Sandpoint on Sept. 4.

Most 5A Inland Empire League schools will play each other twice, with both teams hosting. The first game between the two teams will be a nonconference game. Coeur d’Alene faces Lewiston once, at Bengal Field on Oct. 23.

Lake City and Lakeland will play eight games, with Post Falls still scheduled to play nine games.
