LEGION BASEBALL: Lums sweep in final games of season

COEUR d’ALENE — Breyson Coppess doubled with one out in the bottom of the seventh to score Landen Thompson with the winning run as the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen beat the Moses Lake Spuds 3-2 in the first game of a doubleheader late Monday at Thorco Field.

Jackson Scherr opened the scoring in the first game for Coeur d’Alene, driving in Marcus Manzardo with a single in the first inning. Troy Shepard struck out seven in 4 1/3 innings for Coeur d’Alene.

In the nightcap, Coeur d’Alene beat Moses Lake 2-1 to earn the sweep and finish the season 13-16-1.

Payton Childers led off the game with a single and scored on passed ball to give Coeur d’Alene a 1-0 lead in the nightcap. Thompson singled to score Dylan Brum to give the Lums a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning.

Royce Valdez doubled to score Johnny Shea in the seventh for Moses Lake.
