Betty L. (Leighty) Walker, 71

| April 24, 2020 1:00 AM

Our Betty Walker passed away at home on April 17, 2020, to be forever cradled in the arms of Jesus Christ. She was born in Hayden Lake on Jan. 1, 1949, to Kenneth and Stella Leighty. She married Steve Walker on Aug. 1, 1970, in Hayden Lake.

She was loved and adored by those who truly knew her, but none more than her husband and sons, Shane and Travis.

She is survived by her brother, Bob, and sisters Lois, Leila and Jean. Sisters Hazel and Bonnie passed before her. Her family, including nieces and nephews, were very special to her, as were her close friends.

Our Betty was a natural-born caregiver. She assisted teachers in various schools and was always available to a troubled child. She was often thanked by mothers for her dedication to their children’s well-being and education. She was there to wipe away a tear and patch a broken heart. Betty’s walk was warm and understanding. Children could find safe harbor under her wing.

My Betty Lynn was very thoughtful and giving. Christmas came to Vietnam, and hung from the rafters was a small tree adorned with hand-strung popcorn garland and yellow butterscotch candies for lights. It meant a lot to the troops and myself. Care packages often came, to be shared by all. Betty was fondly thought of by those young men.

Betty adored her sons and was proud of their walk with Christ. She leaves behind two very special grandchildren, Bryson and Ella, and they’re loving mother, Ashlie.

The family asks that money not be spent on flowers and gifts, but rather be given to our local Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program for children. Betty had the privilege of placing to two children into good homes through the local CASA program. Please send funds to

North Idaho CASA, 1417 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene ID, 83814.

Betty and I believe that America’s most important natural resource is our children!

Betty was a special soul. She is missed. We grieve deeply!
