FILLIOS: Keep leader in office

| April 14, 2020 1:00 AM

Although I live in a municipality in Kootenai County, I understand how important the county government is and how it impacts my life. Many of the usual municipal services are provided by the city where I live. However, all our lives are affected by the actions of our county government. As a community we are all connected.

Kootenai County government works to protect our Lake Coeur d’Alene. The County Comprehensive Plan certainly impacts my life, as well as the unincorporated areas. The property tax millage impacts all the cities. The requirement for an enforceable and proper building code can affect property values throughout Kootenai County.

Commissioner Fillios has been a fighter to protect our lake. He fought to ensure the updated County Comprehensive Plan protected our property rights. Our tax millage rate as approved by Kootenai County is actually lower this year than last year. The prior County Commission passed an ordinance limiting the authority of the Building Code. Only Commissioner Fillios opposed that action. He saw the danger of too little regulation while recognizing the need to avoid over regulation. He helped reinstate the proper authority of the building code when a new commission was elected.

Commissioner Fillios has always sought the high ground because he is a leader. Our community should re-elect a leader and a fighter. Commissioner Chris Fillios deserves to be re-elected.
