Terrill and Ruth Semanko

61st Anniversary

After a very long journey to this point in time, Terrill “Terry” Semanko and Ruth G. Perkins met at the IHM Catholic Academy in Coeur d’Alene. Terry was a day student and Ruth was a boarder. How they met was as though you were reading it out of a romance novel. After graduating, Ruth went to Kinman Business University in Spokane and on to General Electric Hanford in Richland, Wash. Terry went to work for the Bureau of Public Roads on Lolo Pass near the Montana/Idaho boarder and North Idaho Junior College.

On a beautiful morning on April 18, 1959, Ruth G. Perkins and Terrill W. “Terry” Semanko were married at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene.

They have four beautiful children: Virginia (Semanko) Anderson, husband Ken, Post Falls; Trina (Semanko) M., her husband Mike; Joel Semanko, wife (Andrea Leithoff) Mount Vernon, Wash.; and Sandra (Semanko) Stiffler husband, Rob, Waldport, Ore. Proud grandparents of nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

The planned celebrations will be held at a later date due to the current pandemic COVID-19 and the social distancing mandate.

Ruth and Terry retired in 2002 and immediately took on the “Labors of Love” taking care of aging parents, friend and family. Out of “Mom’s Kitchen” came hundreds of meals, pies, cakes and especially cookies. Trips to the medical facilities for those who were the lost and forgotten (always taking the scenic routes if possible).

Ruth loves music, played for years at church, for weddings, funerals and a few honky tonks … E ha! Terry is an Old Time Fiddler still at age 80. Has belonged to several groups over the years playing for those who are shut-ins, people that music is their only connections to the outside world. They never forget the music. Despite the challenges, life is beautiful, God is good and love is still in the air.

Terrance ‘Terry’ Hannon

90 Years Young

April 17, 2020, marks the 90th birthday of Coeur d’Alene’s Terrance “Terry” Hannon. Born on that date in 1930, Terry is the youngest of eight children born to James and Ann Hannon of Flasher, N.D.

Terry graduated high school in Waubun, Minn., then enlisted in the United States Navy serving during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, Terry relocated to Southern California. After driving truck for a while, Terry was accepted into the Los Angeles Police Department training academy.

While still on the police force, Terry attended law school. After graduation and passing the California Bar exam, Terry retired as a lieutenant from the LAPD and moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1977 where he has resided ever since. He practiced law until 1995, then continued working as a professional mediator and arbitrator.

Terry continues to work through various volunteer outlets, such as ushering at Lake City church, delivering meals on wheels each week, working at the Lake City church’s food bank and working each Saturday at the downtown soup kitchen. Terry loves nothing more than camping with family and solving all the world’s problems around a blazing campfire.

Terry has two daughters, Teresa McCabe of Fullerton, Calif., and Kathleen Zavatti of McKinney, Texas. He is the proud grandfather of Jeff (Ciara) Wascher, Ryan (Sherie) McCabe, Olivia Zavatti and Nicholas Zavatti. Terry is great-grandpa to Cooper, Deklyn and Rylie.

Terry’s numerous niece’s and nephews in the Coeur d’Alene area, together with his daughters and family members from many different states planned to honor his milestone birthday with a celebration and family reunion weekend. Those plans are yet another victim of the current pandemic. When social distancing restrictions are lifted and you happen to see Terry around town, please wish him a very happy 90th birthday and give him a pat on the back for all his good works and charitable deeds. His family sends him all our love and God’s blessings to him.
