BACK THEN: Catch it now

| April 7, 2020 1:00 AM

This pandemic experience is new and horrifying, its potential impact on human life and the economy staggering.

But as Americans, we’ve been through global crises before.

Like World War II.

While most North Idahoans are following Gov. Brad Little’s order and staying home, we thought we’d provide a daily glimpse back nearly 80 years. This retro excursion will include an item or two from the Coeur d’Alene Press on the same date in 1942 as present time. The paper, all six pages of it most days, was published only on weekdays back then, so we’ll cheat a couple times each week with features from the closest date possible.

Some will be whimsical; some politically incorrect; some passionate or otherwise moving. And some, just odd or inspirational.

Here’s an entry from April 7, 1942, in the Coeur d’Alene Press.
