HOMELESS: ‘Warrior’ misinformed

| April 1, 2020 1:00 AM

There seems to be a misconception that Kootenai County has closed its homeless shelters.

I was verbally assaulted by a 20-something social justice warrior at Safeway, on Friday around noon, regarding this issue. I was answering a question from my cashier about how we, at the County Administrative Building, were continuing to offer services to the public via phone, email and other alternatives, including personal meetings by appointment.

He informed me that I “should be ashamed” because the county had closed its homeless shelter and “all the homeless people had to sleep on top of Tubbs Hill.”

I responded to his accusation, “I don’t believe the county OWNS a homeless shelter.” This was evidently pouring gasoline on his fire, because he ended up escalating his tone and accusing both me and the woman bagging my groceries of heartlessly laughing at the plight of the homeless.

I just would like to assure you, sir. We weren’t laughing at the homeless. We were laughing at you.

Before you start accosting random strangers with rants, check your facts, maybe? This was like something out of a Black Rifle Coffee ad.
