COEUR d’ALENE — Jacob Janzen had two goals and three assists for the Timberwolves in a 5A Inland Empire League shutout of the visiting Bengals at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex.

“I was very proud of the way the guys played today, especially considering the wet snow and windy conditions,” Lake City coach Alan Rich said. “We were able to maintain more than our fair share of possession, which led to creating several good scoring chances. They passed well, worked hard off the ball and played solid team defense. I think the tough loss we had last week (to Post Falls 4-3 at home on Tuesday) helped everyone to refocus on our season and the things that we need to improve on.”

Landon Lee had three saves for Lake City (7-2-2, 2-2 5A IEL), which hosts Coeur d’Alene on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

LEWISTON — Senior forward Maddy Lasher scored five goals and also had an assist as the visiting Timberwolves blanked the Bengals 9-0 in 5A Inland Empire League play at Walker Field.

“She had a heckuva game, on the ball and off the ball,” Lake City coach Matt Ruchti said. “Her pressure up top was outstanding. She’s getting back to where she was eight or nine days ago, and that motivates us.”

Mady Smith added two goals and two assists for Lake City (7-2, 3-1 5A IEL), which played five matches in a nine-day stretch before having three days before Saturday’s match.

“We wanted to get back to how we were playing a few weeks ago,” Ruchti said. “We hadn’t been playing that clean, and today we did.”

Lewiston is 0-4 in league.

POST FALLS — For the second time this season, the Vikings and Trojans played to a scoreless tie in 5A Inland Empire League play, this time in the snow, wind and cold at Post Falls High.

“The wind was blowing so hard out of the north that it was really a game where each team had to play defend and counter while the other attacked,” Post Falls coach Steve Mills said.

He said Coeur d’Alene (3-3-4, 2-0-2 5A IEL) had the best chance to score, on a penalty kick in the first half, but sophomore keeper Ashley Grant of Post Falls (3-5-3, 1-1-2) dived to her left and covered the shot.

Post Falls nearly scored in the second half when Trinity Nichols headed a ball down for Morgan Rust, but Rust’s shot just missed wide right from 6 yards out.

“A lot of respect to the girls on both squads,” Mills said. “Horrible conditions, but everyone worked hard and both teams got off the field without injuries, which could have easily been an issue on a slippery field.”

On Monday, Coeur d’Alene plays host to Moscow. Post Falls is home against Lewiston on Tuesday.
