Lake City goes 2-0-1 to open tourney
- VOLLEYBALL
MERIDIAN — Lake City won two matches and split a third Friday on the first day of the Rocky Mountain Invitational at Rocky Mountain High.
Lake City defeated Columbia 25-18, 25-16, split with Mountain View 13-25, 25-18 and beat Capital 25-22, 25-22.
“Overall, a good first day — and tiring,” said Lake City coach Mike Summers, whose team flew down to Boise early Friday morning. “That first set against Mountain View, we came out very flat and not very disciplined. But overall, defensively we were really good, and our blocking was starting to look better. Our last game was probably our best game of the evening.”
Nellie Reese had 39 assists on the day for Lake City (8-2). Hannah Rowan had 10 kills on the day, Kate DuCoeur four kills each vs. Columbia and Mountain View, Janae Rayborn seven kills and nine digs vs. Capital, Jaya Miller 22 digs in three matches. Tanae Jenkins, who returned this week for the first time following ACL surgery, had five blocks vs. Capital. Alissa Stennett had four kills and two aces vs. Mountain View. Kiki Cates had seven digs each vs. Columbia and Capital. Brenna Hawkins had two blocks each vs. Columbia and Capital.
Lake City plays Rocky Mountain, Boise and Centennial to conclude pool play today. Bracket play follows.
