Irvin leads Lake City to win over East Valley in the rain

| September 28, 2019 1:00 AM

SPOKANE VALLEY — Chris Irvin passed for one touchdown and ran for another as the Lake City Timberwolves weathered the rain and beat the East Valley Knights 13-7 in nonleague high school football on Friday night.

Lake City (3-2) moved above the .500 mark for the first time since 2014.

Irvin’s 2-yard run in the third quarter gave the Timberwolves the lead for good. His 2-yard TD pass to Matthew Whitcomb in the second quarter opened the scoring.

“We were pretty sloppy in general,” Lake City coach Brian Fulp said. “Missed assignments, I think we had six drops. But a great defensive effort; our defense put in a lot of good positions to be successful. They gave us a short field on both touchdowns.

“It was one of those ones we had to gut out.”

It was homecoming for East Valley (1-3).

Lake City travels to Sandpoint next Friday to wrap up nonleague play.
